Overview
The Coordinated Public Transit Human Services Transportation Plan (Coordinated Plan) is a unified, comprehensive strategy for public transportation service delivery that specifically:
- Identifies the transportation needs of seniors and individuals with disabilities.
- Lays out strategies for meeting these needs.
- Prioritizes services for these target populations.
The Coordinated Plan enables OKI to prioritize and identify projects to invest 5310 federal funding in the region. Agencies must be listed in the Coordinated Plan to apply for this funding.
Background
OKI was named the designated recipient of Section 5310 federal for the Cincinnati urbanized area by the governors of Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana in 2014. Although each year varies, the OKI region gets about $1 million to $2 million annually to allot to private nonprofit agencies, local governments, and transit authorities that are supporting efforts to improve mobility for our seniors and individuals with disabilities.
Agency Representation
The OKI 5310 Oversight Team reaches out to many groups to prepare and maintain the Coordinated Plan. They include seniors, individuals with disabilities, the general public, private and non-profit transportation providers, human service agencies, passengers and their advocates, and other stakeholders. This process includes questionnaires, public meetings, and workshops, where the team discusses and determines the most effective and feasible strategies to address the needs of these populations.
